MAAI/MALI History

In the Summer of 2010, Argy Nestor, the Visual and Performing Arts Specialist at the Maine Department of Education, asked music teacher Rob Westerberg and visual arts teacher, Catherine Ring, to join her in Plymouth NH for a professional development opportunity to explore ideas on assessment for arts education in Maine.

First of three planning meetings for the development of the Maine Arts Assessment Initiative took place at the Deaprtment:
August 30, 2010 - set groundwork & next steps
September 29, 2010 - meeting with "Brain Team"
October 26, 2010 - meeting with Dan Hupp, Director of Standards and Assessment at the Department of Education and outlining next steps

Our press release to MAEA and MMEA announcing our crazy little plan in mid-October, 2010

Our journey has its origins back to when Argy Nestor was hired for the reestablished Visual and Performing Arts Specialist position in 2006... the history is being compiled and will be available in the future!
